Launching 'unidentified programmes' - UAC

My Vista PC is set for me as the administrator - there are no other users. All the progmas I have were installed with no problem. There are 2 however - Lightbox and Everything - that each time I open them the Vista UAC box comes up and asks me if I want to allow the prog to open as it is unidentified. I find this annoying and am not sure what to do about it?

Hi longbelly, i had the same problem once, go to the Control Panel, then User Accounts, under the sub heading 'Make changes to your user account' the last option is 'Turn user account control on or off' click on this and set it to off,

Hope this helps!

Thanks. I cannot see what I can change in User Accounts to make any difference as I am already down as the Administrator. I have tried turning of UAC and this of course solves the problem. However this leaves me concerned for the security of my PC.

I have no problems launching all my programs except these two mentioned - Everything.exe and Lightbox.exe - and I don't understand why? I wonder if there is some other way I can install them to stop this UAC box appearing everytime I launch them?

Have you tried creating desktop shortcuts for the programs, then going into properties of the shortcut, click advanced and check "run as administrator" ? --ch

From what i understand about the UAC it shows a warning for programs that windows or microsoft does not know or programs that are not approved by microsoft (these are programs that microsoft don't want you using cause they have one that does the same thing but you have to pay heaps and heaps for it. Make sure you know what your installing and you should be fine. If your trying a new program checks forums and reviews before installing to see what other people think of the program.

From what i understand about the UAC it shows a warning for programs that windows or microsoft does not know or programs that are not approved by microsoft (these are programs that microsoft don't want you using cause they have one that does the same thing but you have to pay heaps and heaps [!!???] for it. Before you go racing into turning User Account Control off, just to rid yourself of the 0.5 second inconvenience of clicking on a 'Continue' button, I strongly recommend that you have a good read of the following article, especially the warnings contained in the first two sentences;

What is User Account Control? - Windows Vista Help

For a more detailed overview of UAC, have a good look at Brink's Tutorial here;

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/80938-user-account-control-uac-elevate-privilege-level.html

.......and especially all the articles linked and listed in the green Information panel at the start. Then, for the sake of your own security and to avoid potentially harmful installations or reconfigurations, leave the UAC function on.

Hope that this helps.

Thank you Sassofalco and others.

The two progs, I have it on good authority are recommended and 'good!'
I have still have UAC turned on and will leave it that way.
I have tried changing permissions on 'properties' but this makes no difference.
Still a mystery but will leave it that way.
Thank you.

You're welcome longbelly,

I found the permissions in properties ineffective as well, but
UAC enabled, to me is better than risking all with it off, and
you've made the right choice. Glad I could help.
