Doing a fresh install of Vista after several months of using Linux...minor boot ?s...

So, after a while of using Linux and some Win7, I'm coming back to Vista Ultimate until Windows 7 supports more of my games and my onboard 5.1 sound. So, I've kinda forgot how to really speed Vista up, so anyone think they could help me get my boot times down really low, etc? Here are my specs of the computer I'm doing the fresh install on.

Intel C2D E8400 @3ghz OC'd to 3.8ghz
Nvidia GeForce GTX260 Video Card
G.Skill 8gb DDR2 RAM
750gb SATA Barracuda x1
ASUS P5Q SE PLUS Motherboard

Also, why would my 5.1 surround sound and my speakers (5) work fine in Linux, but not in Windows or Vista? That's something I need to get working.
