Should I go back to Vista Ultimate from Win7?

Should I move back to Vista Ultimate from Windows 7? I like em both, but can't decided which one to use. Windows 7 does almost everything I want except play a few games, which Vista does. The only problem with both Vista Ultimate and Win7 is that neither likes my onboard surround sound, which Linux detected and had it worked perfectly. I've probably formatted and reformatted this drive over 50 times since I got it in December and I still can't figure out what I want on it. I did tri-boot at one point, but it just got to un-organized I had to stop it.

Hi Bryce

Well, I think this is one that only you can answer for yourself really.
Since you're the only one who knows what you need and what works with either install you have, only you can decide which OS has what you need. Personally I dual boot both 7 and Vista Ult but I use 7 almost exclusively nowadays, and everything works for me on 7....so far...X (fingers crossed)

What do you have for onboard surround? Is it actually a PCI sound card or is it an actual onboard chip on the MoBo? And what make/model is it in either case? We may be able to get this going for you but Creative is known to have driver issues on W7 ATM.

It's onboard on the mobo. My motherboard is ASUS P5Q SE PLUS. I've also had problems where I'll wake up and find my external harddrives all disconnected, checked the usb connections and their all in securely and my AIM and Messeneger will pop up after I minimized any application. It gets annoying fast. But my biggest problem is my surround sound, god I want that to work in either Windows 7 or Vista Ultimate.

No doubt my friend...no doubt.
I know how much I LOVE my surround sound, stereo just doesn't cut it anymore with some things.

Lemme check on that MB specs and I'll see what I can find for you.

If I can get my surround sound working good then I'm gonna keep Windows 7 until it expires and then buy the full ultimate of it. Those Home versions just don't cut it. I've bought the Vista Ultimate 64bit on Newegg for like $180 or something.

Another thing, I just noticed my external hard drive keeps going down in space everytime I check it o.O It goes down by few megabytes every 5+ hours or something. It was at 198mb free of 486gb (500gb), now it's at 194mb free o.O. I wonder if that's because of it auto disconnecting every night like it does.

@Chappy: That'd be wonderful. I can't live w/o surround sound no more, not even on my TV. Would running the motherboard cd in vista compatability work? I'm thinking no since I don't think the surround sound even worked in Vista Ultimate with the mobo drivers installed. It only worked as far as I know in Linux for some reason.

but this windows 7 is just temporary? or are people able to buy licence?

Windows 7 is only a BETA, which means it will have alot of unfixed bugs (supposedly) i still haven't found while using it and the compatibility seems to be fine at the moment, though i don't use many programs. I don't think you can actually by the lisence for it but you were able to download a copy of the BETA and were able to use a Windows Live Account as a means to get the lisencing code. I'm nearly positive that you can't download it anymore as the cut off date was a while back.

I just tried it and get installed failed. I had to run it in Vista Compatiability to even get it to start though and my motherboard is the SE PLUS not Premium.
