Vista - Can't Drag and Drop Start Menu Icons

Running Vista Home Premium x64 SP1.

I have all my Start Menu links under my user account (not all users). I also have "Enable context menus and dragging and dropping" option enabled. I can right-click on items and rename/delete them, but when I try to drag an icon from one folder in the Start Menu to another folder, my cursor turns to a red "no can do" symbol and I can't drop the icon in the new folder. Am I missing a setting somewhere, or are things just honked up?

That works, and is how i have been doing it to-date. unfortunately, it's not very convenient when I want to quickly reorganize the shortcuts a new program creates.

You might see if while dragging the shortcut in the Start menu, you can move it around the folder you want to move it to a bit more to see if you may be off just a bit to allow it to move.

I cannot move any shortcuts form one subfolder to another in the Start Menu, I cannot move any shortcuts around in the same folder in the Start Menu, I CAN move a shortcut from a subfolder to the root of the Start Menu.

If it had worked for you before this, then you can do a System Restore using a restore point dated when it did work to hopefully fix this.

You can test that theory by creating a new administrator account to see if it works fine in that account. If so, then you can copy the contents of the older C:\Users\(user name) folders into the new account's corresponding C:\Users\(user name) folders to have your settings copied over to the new account.
