I am having some problems booting up my PC so I am trying to remove my harddrives and save my files by plugging the drives into another PC.. the plugs don't seem to match though..

What do I do?

Is it possible to get an adapter, or am I doomed?

Can you describe what plugs you were using, and are using in the PC you're trying to connect the hard drives to please? :)

OK, the harddrives from the PC that died have to little plufs that attached. They are kind of rounded black plugs with red wire(one is red one is multi colored. This is from a newer HP computer. I would call these a "new style"..

and the plugs inside the older computer I am trying to install these in are old style.. I think they are called IDE? like ribbon style wiring.. wide flat and then the blocky plastic plugs...

Are you meaning the HP computer has the types of connectors in the image I've attached? And you're right with the ribbon cables, they are called IDE and the blocky plastic plugs are molex connectors :)

In the image I've linked, the cable that's on the left, that's a SATA-to-Molex adapter that you can use to power the hard drive. They're easy to get hold of and cheap.

As for the SATA data cable, have you looked on the motherboard to see if there are any SATA ports? If it's an older motherboard then it might have the older SATA ports on that will look like the ones in the second image I've attached.

If it doesn't, then I think you might be able to buy something like this Lycom ST-125NR eSATA II-3Gbps External (eSATA)+3Internal 4Ports LP PCI 32bit Host (Non-Raid) - Scan.co.uk and connect your hard drives in to it.

Thank you for the pics Everlong. I will have to look. I closed the PC back up because my girlfriend needs it. I will look tomorrow. Those catalog links will help though.
