Solved How to delete a file that isn't there

I've a file in my Favorites (for IE7) and there is no way I can get rid of it. I've shut down IE, rebooted the machine and gone to Windows Explorer to delete this thing, but cannot.
When I went to see if it was a read-only file, it was. But when I go to make it a non read-only file, I get the following message, "This is no longer located in the c:\users\favorites - verify the items and try again."

Also I get this message "The system cannot find the file specified" ...

I found this file in four other locations, and deleted them all. But still, I cannot get rid of it in the Favorites.

Please advise ....................

Brink! Hopefully, you're going to be hanging around here for a while. Here's what I did. First, I clicked on the "To Resotre Default Favorites Folder Location" and that put whatever into my Registery."
That didn't change anything, so would I be right in assuming that isn't going to do anything or really hurt anything in my Registry? Secondly (remember I'm less than a novice) does a System Restore take that out of the Registry?

Anyway, I downloaded the Unlocker, and that puppy ripped that particular file out of there that didn't want to leave.
I hadn't heard of anything like this wee program before, so your help is more than appreciated. I hope they put you in handcuffs if you decide to move out of this forum!!! :-}

If it had the default location of C:\Users\(user name)\Favorites in it's Properties page and %USERPROFILE%\Favorites in the registry, then you will not need to do anything with it since those are the default locations.


I'm happy to hear that Unlocker got rid of it for you though. :)


No plans on going anywhere. I plan on being buried with the keyboard still attached to my fingers working here. ;)

You know Brink, I don't honestly know what Option 3 did. I clicked on this ...
4. To Restore Default Favorites Folder Location -
A) Click on the download button below to download the
Restore_Favorites_Default_Location.reg file.

And clickinig on this, I really didn't know what it was going to do or supposed to do. It put or restored the Default Favorite Folders location I guess, but from what you can see here, does it appear that I did the right thing?

As stated earlier, I'd not heard of Unlocker before or anything like that. I'm totally happy that you pointed that out. Most helpful. Thanks!

Yeah, all it would have done was to change the Favorites folder to it's default location in the registry. It appears that it was already set to default, so basically it did not change anything for you. ;)

Good! Appeciated sir. Brink, it appears you're rumbling in from Texas, which means you're burning the midnight (or 2:18AM oil) ... it's 3:18AM here, and something's informing me that I've got to Unlock myself from this swivel chair and this laptop and see if I can get a bit more sleep.
