This file has no program association

Hello Fred, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It just means that there is not a program that is associated (assigned) to open that particular file extension type.

You can right click on the file and click on Open With, then select or browse to the program's exe file that is suppose to be used to open that file with. For example, for a .txt file you would want to open it with notepad ("C:\Windows\system32\notepad.exe").

If you are not sure what to do still, then post back with what file extension your file is, and I'll be happy to help. :)

Fred,

It appears that you do not have a program installed that supports opening .doc files installed. By default, Vista does not support .doc files.

You can install the free program "TextMaker Viewer" to be able to open the .doc file with it automatically when you click on the .doc file.

TextMaker Viewer 2008 - Free document viewer for .doc, .odt, .tmd, .rtf, and more

I am having the same problems with setting a file association, except I am trying to run a file with an .exe extension. There is no option to chose "Run With..." when I right-click the file and there is no option in the Set Program Association for the .exe extension. Setting the program to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP also doesn't fix the problem, neither does resetting default program associations, nor using a registry patch to fix .exe associations. I cannot open the file to modify any of it's autorun contents either. What else can I do? The program I'm trying to install is TI Connect.
