Upgrading Motherboard, CPU and Ram.

Ok this is the dealio.
I bought a OEM version of Ultimate x64, though now I want to upgrade my Mobo to another brand, new CPU and Ram. My question is: Do I have to buy a new Windows if I do that? Or is there a way I can reactivate my "old" one?

I'm new here, so please be gentle:p

Thanks ~ Paprika.

No, you don't need to buy new Windows OEM. You can install Vista 6 times before it will stop activating it through the internet & even then you can phone them to activate it (I did that).
No, you can't just reactivate your old hdd's to a new one. I suggest on purchasing a semi sized external hdd and saving all the necessary files.

You will have to call them but the number is toll free, well, in North America but I presume it's the same in Europe (why wouldn't it be?).

Gnys already answered your question, now I have a question for you: Why do you want to upgrade your cpu from an i7?? Or is that the upgrade already?:) Nice system you have there in your specs, man! What are you going to do with the rampage extrerme?:)

Hello Paprika, and welcome to the forums.

While Gnys is close, he is off a little. When you buy Windows, it comes with (usually) one key. This is used on one computer. When you install it on another computer, you must buy another key (but you can use the same DVD).

The key is set to the mobo. When you change your mobo, you must reactivate it. If it refuses, call M$ and they should fix it.

Amplid ~ Reason I'm upgrading to a i7 is because I feel the Q6600 is too slow for me and it seems like a bottleneck when I'm playing Crysis: Warhead etc.. :p And about the Rampage Extreme.. I'm not sure if it's really good because this is my first built, so I actually have no idea, but it's really stable and easy to work with. :)

Lordbob ~ So I have to buy a new Windows key if I'm getting a new mobo?

I did not say that. Your key will work, just call up M$ and let them know that you needed to reinstall on the SAME computer, after some hardware changes. They should understand (you may have to skip the new mobo part)

Or just dont reactivate it, I NEVER activated Visat 64 Ultima on my Desk top and I have never had a problem, updating it or anything.
