| Vista Ultimate x64 w/SP1 | Persistant icon in Notification Area Computer specs are below my main post, but I just have one small issue: I have an Asus Motherboard that has an EPU-6 Engine (EPU = Energy Processing Unit, all it does is maximize energy usage on the mobo). It comes with a small app that puts itself in the Notification Area so that you can change between energy profiles easily. I like the app, but I don't want it shown there all the time. I already tried the "Hide Inactive Icons" option, and also tried to hide it manually by selecting "Hide" from the drop down menu in the "Custom..." options. The problem is that it hides the icon, but when I reboot, all those settings are undone. Is there a way to fix that? Thanks in Advance! | Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area Hello iLawCDN, and welcome to Vista Forums. These types of icons are always active off and on, so as you figured out the "Hide Inactive Icons" option will never work on them for long. These type of programs will usually always get reset at startup to show the icon. You might check in the program's settings to see if there may be an option to remove the icon from the notification area, or some other custom setting it may let you adjust to help. Hope this helps some, Shawn |

| vista x64 home premium | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area I also have this problem. There is a check box to "Show the bluetooth icon in the notification area". I have unchecked this but the bluetooth icon still shows up in the notification area. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area Do you have some proprietary software installed for the device? If so, check the settings for that software and you'll probably find the program has it's own system tray icon it's running. Disable that tray icon and your persistent icon should go away. |

| Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit, 7 Ultimate Build 7068 32bit | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area I've had this same problem with Bluetooth, something I never use. By default Vista will install this so third party software has little effect as it will always return. Go into Device Manager and disable The adaptor under Bluetooth Radios. EDIT: Just read you like the app, well that's the only way I've got rid of the icon. |

| vista x64 home premium | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area resetting the notification area icons did not help. I now use the mirosoft drivers for the bluetooth radio. I have uninstalled the third party software that came with my hardware. Is is possible that the drivers remain? How can I find them and remove them? Thanks for all the help so far. |

| Windows 7 x64 build 7100 & Ubuntu 9.04 | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area If you uninstalled the third party software, that would contain the drivers for something like that. I too have the EPU-6 engine (ASUS P5QC). I don't see a way to remove the icon, and I see no need to. If you turn off Ballon Tool tip, it never does anything. So no need right? If it REALLY bothers you, just uninstall it. ~Lordbob |

| vista x64 home premium | Re: Persistant icon in Notification Area Ok here is an interesting development. The persistent Bluetooth icon on my machine has something to do with my iPod. If I right click on the Bluetooth icon and remove it and then plug my iPod in via usb my Bluetooth icon becomes active. |
