I have spent a good part of the day trying to fix the user profiles for a vista machine. I have tried the reg edit, ran cleaners and anti virus malware bytes, hijack this. I have tried to make new users but when i try to log into them all i get is a blue screen and the hard drive is writing of reading. This is a business machine and not sure if i can do a restore point without losing info for it. I do not have a disk . It is a e-machine W3615. Any help would be welcomed.

Ok I see. Can you log into any user? If you can, try using system restore to go back to a previous point...

I can log on to a master administator. It is the only one out of three. can i run sfc from windows?. This is a friends computer and I am dumb about vista Xp i have no problems. Thanks for the help.

Interesting.... At this point, I would suggest finding a Vista disc somewhere and repairing.... You should be able to order one from M$.

I have done a repair from safe mode. I beleive that the recovery is on the
D: drive. Could not tell if it worked just went to the login screen.

Could this have been caused by an update?
If I log in to account no screen but ctl, alt, del gives me the option to log out. And after i brings me back to the select user screen.

Try logging in, and press Crtl Alt Del and open task manager. See if that starts up Explorer.

I just shows the task manger. Is there a seperate service or user file that might be corrupt?

is there any message on the blue screen at all? it would not happen to be the screen that states that "windows is preparing the desktop," would it? if so, depending on upon the computer's specs, it could take a little more than a few seconds to get the new user account and desktop set up.

When I created a new user the creating desktop came up. I let it run for about 15 mins and ro response. There is no error messages at all. I wish there was would be more helpful.
