downloaded vista twice accidentally

I turned on my computer today and instead of starting up it told me something similar to "there is a missing or corrupt file and windows could not start" and then it told me I had to put in my vista disk and try to repair the problem. I put in the disk, but couldnt get the computer to run the disk from the startup menus. I then went got frustrated and clicked on "recovery partition", where it told me I could re-download vista. I hoped at some point I would be able to repair my existing vista instead of installing a new one, but instead this new vista seemed to completely override my old vista, and then it told me all my old files were put into a "windows.old" file. Then after logging in it told me I had to re-buy vista, which i didn't do. When I logged in using the limited version of vista all of my files were gone and it seemed like all of my existing settings were erased. I was even disconnected from the internet. I'm wondering if there is some way I can repair and recover my old OS and get rid of this trial version.

Redownload Vista?? thats not right. Vista is not downloadable. Only the updates are. the recovery partition/Disk either has the full installation O/S or a factory image of the O/S. It then just needs to be activated with your product key. The only way you get locked out and restricted to limited version mode and then are required to "purchase Vista" is if your copy is not genuine and pirated. If you bought your system you may want to contact Microsoft, and/or the store/system OEM (i.e., HP; Dell, etc.) for assistance.

Do you have a Vista premium DVD? and a sticker on the bottom/side of your computer with a Vista premium product key?

Put the disk in the drive, restart computer, when you see "hit any key to boot from disk" hit a key. Follow prompts to re-install Vista. when it asks you for install location, delete the current Installation partition, or format it, then reinstall Vista. It will ask for your product key at some point-enter it to complete the install.
You overwrote the operating system. You cannot restore it back, but you can recover the user data if you backed it up. All programs will have to be re-installed.

The key in my computer doesnt work for some reason, even though im still using the vista that came with the computer. Also, when it says "press any key to boot from cd" it doesnt do anything when I press keys.

Nevermind, the code seems to be working, but When I try to create my internet connection (I share internet with another computer using a modem) it gives me this error message "Error 815: The broadband connection could not be established on your computer because the remote server is not responding. This could be caused by an invalid value for the "service name" field for this connection."

are you using a cable or wireless connection to the broadband? If it is wireless you may have to connect to the network and/or enter a key if required. If it is hardwired then plug it in, restart computer.

have you tried using the connection wizard?

Ok, I got my internet working and then I put in my code, but I forgot the name of a certain program I had that would help my internet connection. The internet would lag out every minute or so, and it would really affected download speeds. The icon for it was a little radar dish with green waves coming out of it. If anyone knows what this is please tell me.

Microssoft has a free program called PC advisor that tweaks internet connection- have you tried that? it will also keep your system in top shape, and give you needed driver updates.

Well the problem is I play world of warcraft, and for some reason when I use the vista drivers on my computer when im playing I get these lag spikes every minute or so, because the internet connection gets interrupted for some reason. I managed to fix the problem in my old OS by deleting the vista drivers and installing the xp ones, but I forgot how I did this.
