Won't associate file type

Vista won't let me associate file type jpg with a program other than their defaults. I click on browse and select the program (PaintShop Pro), but when I return it only lets me pick one of the original defaults, not the one I browsed to. If I don't pick one of the defaults, the "OK" won't activate and I have to cancel.
What's up with this? Thanks.

Re: Won't associate file type

Check also Control Panel>>Default Programs Default Programs
or use external tool FileTypesMan - Alternative to 'File Types' manager of Windows

Re: Won't associate file type

or, right click the the icon, yours being the .jpg, and select open with > choose default program. select the program you want to be the default handler for that file type. if the program icon is not listed, then browse for the program. make sure the box is checked always use the selected program to open this kine of file.

Re: Won't associate file type

Those are what I did try. After I browse from default to locate and select the program I want to be the default, I am returned to the Vista selected defaults (hmmm almost al MS) and I can't exit until I select one of them.

Have you tried FilesTypeMan from my post 2?

Re: Won't associate file type

When you have selected the program that you want to open the file type with and clicked ok are you remembering to click apply before you click on ok on the properties box?
If you don't hit apply it will cause it to revert back to windows photo gallery
