DVD drive scans when external eSATA off

Hi all, my first post here. I hope this is the right section. And I hope you can help.

I've got 2 problems that got me really baffled, and I do know a bit about Vista and hardware.
1 - As the subject says - After recovering from "Sleep" mode, the DVD will keep seeking forever on and off if my external eSata drive is off. If I turn the external drive it back on, then the DVD drive stops seeking and is back to normal. If I actually unplug the eSATA cable from the back of the computer, The DVD also is back to normal.

2 - Maybe unrelated, but in Disk Management, I have an unknown Disk 2 there of 8Gb. When I turn Disk Management on, it wants to initialize it. Even if I try to initialize, it fails. I have no idea what that Not initialized, Unallocated 8Gb is. Properties on it give little. Says: Config Disk 0 ATA Device. I didn't have that before.

My setup is Vista Ultimate x64. I have an ASUS P5Q PRO mobo. Running 2 SATA drives in Raid 0 (managed my Intel Matrix Storage Manager). I later added another internal SATA drive (non-raid), which is always on (internal), and have an external (non-raid) backup drive I turn on once in a while connected through eSATA (have 3 SATA to eSATA cables running from the motherboard to backets in the back of the tower). Only one external eSATA is plugged. The DVD drive, also SATA, worked fine before. It's detected no problem in the BIOS.

I hope someone encountered something similar? Searches on this forum and generally googling hasn't turned up quite the same issues.

Any idea?

Update: unknown Disk issue RESOLVED. This may help others. I'm not sure what did the trick but I did two things before rebooting Vista:
- Deleted a the driver for a Adaptec RAID controller PCI card I removed (used it only a day, wasn't what I needed). It will still showing in the device manager (hidden).
- Disabled Drive Xpert in the BIOS.
