laptops preloaded with 64bit

So i've spent the last 4 days searching "32 bit vs 64 bit" and have come up with conflicting results across the board. One forum says go for the 64, almost everything is compatible, and that's what everything will be soon. However, other forums say stay with 32, nothing is compatible with 64 and it isn't changing over soon.

I'm in the market for a laptop, and finally found one on sale for the price I want with the specs I want. Catch: only comes preloaded with Vista 64bit. I talked with my neighbor who is a computer tech for Northrop Grumman, and he says company wide no-one has gone to 64 bit, and he is very skeptical of it. So I thought maybe I'd look over bestbuy.com (where i found the deal) to find one with 32bit or with a choice between them, but I found that like 90% come preloaded with 64bit. Could this be a sign of the times changing and shifting towards 64bit, or just bestbuy screwing me over?

And of course, the ultimate question is should I pick this up, or wait until i find a deal on a laptop with a 32bit option.

Thanks,
Ian

Hello Ian, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Well, since the laptop comes with 64-bit Vista, you will know that it will have all of the 64-bit drivers that you need to run it. :)

The only thing you need to make sure of now is that any device that you plan on connecting to the laptop also has 64-bit drivers available for it, and that any 32-bit software that you install supports running 64-bit Vista as well. Most do, but you can check at this Microsoft link to see first.

If all of this checks out, then I would recommend getting the one with 64-bit Vista for better performance.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
