My computer is messed up.

The other day my compter was working just fine, until the battery died and it shut off. Ever since then, when I start it up McAfee doesn't open at start up, or at all for that matter. And, everytime I double click on the shortcut, the picture comes up, but it just stays that way, and then the desktop freezes. And, when I try to open something that needs permission to continue, like when I right click and select "Run as administrator, nothing happens. Also, when I try to uninstall something, nothing happens. The internet icon on the taskbar is always frozen, indicating that there's no connection, when there actually is. Most programs do the same as McAfee, althought Internet Explorer 8 works, but not well. It stops working alot and hulu videos don't work for instance. Also, anytime I try to download something on IE8, it quickly jumps to 99% and stops there. And, whenever I try system restore in help, the window stops responding. My mom thinks that it might be a virus from a song that she downloaded on LimeWire 5.1.1 PRO. But again, McAfee won't work. And my registry cleaning software won't open, because it has to ask permission. Which doesn't work. Windows Update doesn't even respond when I open it. What should I do?

I would attempt an online virus scan...


if that does not work, attempt a repair of windows by putting in the CD and rebooting with the CD rom as primary boot device (Changed in BIOS) and going from there....


Checkout your task manager and maje sure nothing funky is running....could very well be a virus.

you have two problems here:

Do a system restore to a point before the corruption/infection occured, and/or "repair" re-install Vista You will have to perform this from the Vista disk or recovery partition:

1. Using a registry Cleaner. They are notorious for Windows/Program Corruption. They are not able to distinguish between legitimate and unwanted registry entires. The corruption they inevitably cause usually requires a Vista re-install to fix. Check the forums here-half of them regarding issues with Windows are a direct result of using reg cleaner "performance" tools.

2.You may have a virus and/or Corruption. Either way try scanning with the below programs (after restore/repair), and if neccessary re-install Vista.

You should download AVG, Spyware Doctor and Macafee using another computer. Install them and run virus scans. If a virus shows up your computers f****d.

You should back up any data you want to keep and do a clean install and not just a repair, heres some reasons why When should I re-format? How should I reinstall? Security - dslreports.com

Basically once you'v got a virus the safest thing for you and everybody else connected to the internet is to do a reformat and reinstall. A repair will only fix any system files that have changed not clean the system of added files etc.

It sounds like ur hard disk is not responding properly

Follow these steps,

Open my computer, right click on c drive and go to properties. Click the tools tab and hit check now. Check the two boxes and click start

It will schedule the disk checking, at next restart. Restart ur computer. Let the disk check finished.
