Goodday Folks:
The two items posted in the Title Bar are related.
Yesterday I accessed Discussions in Windows and posted a question. Today I received a reply but when I click the link I get a blank screen. The window is there in all its glory, but there is no message. I then went to Discussions to get the response from the source, but when I attempt to sign in, Firefox gives me a message that it can't find the address. I don't know if you folks have any connection to the Discussion Forum, or know anything about it but, if so, perhaps you could enlightened me as to why I can't sign in today when I could yesterday.
The second item is a repeat of the question I posted in Discussions. Yesterday my program update scanner informed me that I had two programs that required updating. These were Microsoft Word Viewer and PowerPoint Viewer. I went to the Microsoft download site and got the update for the former application but, when I tried the second one, Windows Installer just sat there spinning its wheels. I had to close it using Task Manager and when I did so I got the notice screen telling me that Windows Installer had stopped working. Task Manager closed the download. I then went to a download for Office XP and when I attempted to download it I got a message informing me that there was another download in progress. I did a restart and tried again. I got the same message. I did a cold boot and the problem went away but, when I tried the XP download again Windows Installer once again failed to operate. After another cold boot I went back to both the downloads and tried again but without opening them as an administrator. This time they both download satisfactorily.
Since you fine folks seem to have all this arcane information about the quirks in Vista, I figure someone out there in Vista Land can resolve this problem. Its not major as long as I don't run downloads as an administrator however, past experience has taught me, to my sorrow, that small glitches have a bad habit of multiplying like rabbits if not corrected. I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
Regards
Powell Lucas
P.S. If you don't get a thank you it's because I can't get back into this site or can't open your responses.
