mbr help?

I, uh, couldn't figure out where this should go so I'm just gonna put it here.

I dual boot vista ultimate and win7 (build 7000) on my laptop (both x32) and the vista installation ksod'd me. I had to wipe the vista partition and reinstall vista. apparently the mbr was on the vista partition and was wiped out also. now with the new vista installation there was a new mbr and win7 is not registered in it. i don't get the choice to boot into win7 when i start up my computer.

can anyone point out a way to solve this problem for a computer n00b? (that is, a way short of wiping win7 and reinstalling it too)

thanks mucho

Rebuild the BCD with the 7 Disk (Startup Repair so that is sees 7 and vista and gives the dual boot option) What occured is when you re-installed Vista you overwrote the Boot config for Win 7- now you have to mark 7 as "Active", and then repair the Win7 boot data.

Follow steps here for marking a partition (volume) as Active.
