Creeping Mouse Pointer?

I would try doing a search, but I'm afraid I would not know what to search for.

My problem: with no hand on my mouse, the pointer will begin to move around erratically usually in a small area. It is a cheapy optical made by Micro Innovations. Is it eh mouse's fault or something else in my system? I'm running Vista 64-bit Ultimate.

Thanks for any direction or ideas. :)

Hello Warthog. (still like your sig)

First off, try plugging in another mouse. See if it still happens.

I would bet it doesn't, and that part of it is either bad mouse, or bad drivers.

Its surprising how many (myself included) don't.

You can do that permanently, or just to check.

It also depends if you are using a mouse mat. I have had a similar experiance with a cheap mouse on my desk (wood). For some reason the grain of the wood interfears with the tracking so I use a proper mouse mat now.

I have found that older ball mice tend to stick and wander, but not newer laser ones.

Though mine bounces because my base is turned up to damn high.... lol.

Mine was a MS wireless laser mouse which was a MS desktop set. After dancing for a while it started to miss clicks, replacing the batteries didn't help. I opened it up cleaned it out, cleaned the conacts. No good. After which i bought another USB wireless laser mouse.

I used Wired as well.

Keep in mind, there are five types of mice: Ball mice (old), those ones where you use your thumb to move the ball and the mouse doesn't move, optical (most mice), laser (high end usually), and the new new blue laser thing that is only in one mouse I have seen, and can supposedly be used on any surface.... fancy.

Anyways, I don't buy cheap mice because they die too soon. I tend to be pretty rough with my stuff, and my mouse has lasted through it.

Went and got a MS Comfort Optical Mouse @ WalMart for $20. Seems like it's going to be a good one. It has the zoom button and that's kind of cool. :)

Once again everyone, thanks for the quick help.
