Hard drive error

OK, as a precaution, I went to do a full complete backup of my RAID 0 drives, using Acronis True Image 11 Home ( it was offered here at a discount ) It was almost all done then got an error that it couldnt read a sector, which made Intel Matrix call out a failing HD. HP has hardware diagnostics that show no errors ( ran it twice ) I want to run check disk utility, can someone point me to a tutorial? Acronis said to try to check the disk and remove or repair the sector, ( can this be done on a RAID 0 configuration? ) and, if it cant be repaired to go ahead with the backup using the ignore bad setors option, then replace the drive. The machine is still on extended warranty so the drive is still covered, but just seems strange that i've no problems.. no reported errors from the diagnostics, ( it runs weekly ) even as I check it over and over got no errors, suddenly go to back up for the first time with Acronis and bam.. theres a drive failing. Please be so kind as to help instruct me on the chkdsk utility so I can see if errors are present using this utility.. then I can hit up HP with some facts when I call them back tonight. many thanks to all in advance.

OK, new developments. I ran diagnostics from the BIOS and got failures in the read test from sectors on my drives that are in RAID 0 configuration. I am now faced with a different problem, I used method 1 ( I think...) to run dskchk by right clicking on the C drive and going to tools then check for erors, making sure to check both available options, then clicking to " schedule to run check disk at next start up", it seems that it is running this operation everytime I restart now... ( at least I hope..as my screen is blank and none of my drivers have loaded, but there is HD activity..) How can I stop this operation from running every start up? AND.... if it doesnt come out of this operation, I want to try to restart again, this time aborting the disk check at start up to make sure its really dead or if its the disk check thats got it in limbo.. so... how can I abort the disk check if I cold start it again? Thanks for any help....
