What am I missing????

5 days ago I posted a problem about not being able to download exe files and not being able to install programs from CD's.

The problem had been addressed a couple of years ago and none of those solutions worked, along with no recent listings of the problem.

What did I do wrong on my post that I had no comments, suggestions or assistance offered at all?

I'm just looking for help. I guess I'll have to call the folks in India and pay for assistance on something that, as near as I can tell, happened after one of the updates though I don't remember which one a few weeks back.

If anyone has other resource information I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks all. NO gripping just trying to figure how to come to the "community" for help.

Thank you for your help. I had to go no further than the AVG for the download problem.

Didn't have time to try anything but a game CD she bought and it didn't install but I suspect it is the CD. The company sent a code for download off of the net and it worked fine.

I had only turned off the firewall on her PC not the enite network or router but have it back on and installed one of the anti virus programs you suggested.

If you get a chance could you comment on the registry cleaning programs. I do not feel comfortable enough to accept the changes recommended as I don't want to mess up the PC. I would like to run them on my work XP PC but don't want to risk having to reinstall all etc.

Thanks again for the help.

I do not recommend reg cleaners. There are many, many threads in these forum from users who corrupted Windows using one-Use at you own risk.

That being said, If you are still determined to mess with the registry-try ccleaner:http://www.vistax64.com/software/86472-latest-ccleaner-version-released.html

To the first post I don't really want to run a reg cleaner. As I noted I'm not qualified enough to understand and react to the results so that's not an issue.

As for the errors on trying to install a program there are none. I have not had chance to try a on game program (I suspect it might be the game cd itself being bad at this point). The install runs up to a point then stops and never gets to the usual "accept/next" boxes for doing the install.

I downloaded the program off of the net with a purchase code they sent and it works fine. Will try a non game install soon (this week way to busy) and get back if that is still a problem.

Thanks again all

Mike

Post the error message exactly. Your specs? What changes did you make just before it broke.
