Just completed 1st build. I have to wait 5 more days to receive Vista 64bit by mail.... I want to install Ubunto 8.1 during my waiting time. Is there an issue of installing Ubunto before installing Vista Premium 64bit? Any suggestion to avoid issues?

Thanks,

Vista's installer will overwrite the current bootloader on the MBR (master boot record) which in your case is GRUB as of now. It won't delete your linux partition, but it will temporarily block you access to it.

When I installed Debian, I installed GRUB to the bootsector of my 2nd partition, so that I could chainload it using EasyBCD, but if you install Windows later, and install EasyBCD, you can install NeoSmart's own GRUB bootloader to the bootsector of your linux partition and then add an entry for it.

If you ever install linux after Windows, I recommend specifying where to install GRUB, ex: (hd0,1) - first hard drive, second partition, and then chainloading that through Windows' bootloader.

If you don't specify that, GRUB will overwrite Windows' bootloader and you'll have to repair it using a restore disc. ('bootrec /fixmbr' at the restore cmd to restore the Windows bootloader)

Hello Andre10,

Welcome to the Vista Forums.

You can go ahead and install Ubuntu if you like. When you go to install Vista, you should be able to just install over it or you can choose custom install and from there you should have the option to format the disc/partition and install Vista. Either way should work.
