Setup User accounts to second internal HD

Hi all,

I have windows vista ultimate x64. I have two internal hard drives. My system software is on the smaller 150GB HD. I plan to use my 1TB green drive for all my documents (word, excel, mail, photos, music, programs, games, etc).

However, the default setting for the user account is still my C drive (150GB). How do I switch is so that My Documents are default to the E Drive when the system software sets the users to the C drive? And would I need to do this for all users on the system separately or in one area? (e.g.: my wife's user account documents location).

Thanks for the help.

Hi jemmie455,

All the "Shell folders", Document, Pictures, etc, may be redirected onto your 1TB drive,

First you should create an empty folder structure on the 1TB drive and once done, simply right click on the original Shell folder and on the "Location Tab", select move and point the system to the new location, and select ok, agree to move the existing files and the location will be mapped to the correct place.

This will have to be done for each folder you wish to re-locate and repeated for eack user, although you can have more than one user point to the same location.

Edit Beaten me again dwarf :D

Create a login user as admin and give administrative privilege to that user account,
Restart your system,

Login to ur system with admin user id, navigate to c:\users\ there u can find folder with your personnel user name(In my case its delphin, that folder contains ur desktop, documents, favorites, application data, mail folders). Move that folder completely from 150 gb to 1tb hard disk.

Say suppose you are moving the delphin folder from c\users\ to f:\users, Type regedit in run, navigate to h key local machine\software\microsoft\windowsnt\current verson\profile list expand it, Untitled.jpg

While selecting one of the keys in the left pane u will be able to find the old path name of your profile(the moved one),double click on profile image path and Change it to new path (ie from c:\users\delphin to f:\users\delphin).

Restart ur computer login with ur personnel login id. here after all your files will be in 1tb hard disk. :)
