| Vista 64 Business | Vista 64 hangs at startup Every once in a while, after the Microsoft scrolling bar, right when it should be displaying the round logo, Vista 64 hangs to a black screen with a white line at the top. I cannot figure out what causes this. My mobo is Gigabyte EP45-DS3r and video card is GeForce 8600GT Dual DVI. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm going crazy here ![]() Thanks, Rob |

These generally occur when winload.exe is missing or corrupted NVidia Monitor detection: http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion...hp?t48178.html http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...1&#entry206501 run sfc/scannow System Files - SFC Command Run checkdisk How To Make Vista more responsive and faster[11]=Performance Maintenance Last edited by rive0108; 04-08-2009 at 08:33 PM.. |

I had an 8600GT and every now and then , at that same point, I would get a strange patchwork of colours onscreen , and needed to do a hard shutdown. Turns out it was the 8600gt that was at fault, and when I returned it to my PC maker, they said that card had known issues. You might try updating the Nvidia drivers first - from their website, in case that helps. I have a strong suspicion you need a new card. Hope it helps. |

| Vista 64 Business | Re: Vista 64 hangs at startup I'm starting to wonder about the video card myself. Problem is, I wouldn't know what else to get. I need a fanless dual DVI card that can handle 1680x1050 on 2 monitors. I'm also getting some hangs inside of Adobe Premier. What I don't understand is why did this setup work for over a year with XPPro. It started with Vista 64. I assume if it is the video card it's related to the drivers. Maybe I should try rolling back a few versions. |

| Vista Ultimate X64 SP2 | Re: Vista 64 hangs at startup How old is your card? some of the older nvidia cards, had defects due to a defective die, and excessive heat could result in the die failure. If your card is failing have you noticed graphical tearing/artifacting, etc? |
