After my laptop starts my desktop icons go away. I go to the "Show Desktop Icons" and it's checked. I un-check it and then re-check it and my icons appear. If I connect my power cord or disconnect my power cord the icons disappear. My computer also will not shut down. When I shut down for the evening I get up the next morning and my computer is still shutting down.
I have Kaspersy virus software and have run full scans. The only problem that comes up is a Java application which is considered malicious.

I didn't make a recovery disk and my computer didn't come with disks.
I've checked the forum and nothing I've seen helps me. Any ideas?
