My 32 bit faster?

Hi guy's , Only new here so dont pressure me!

Wondering if anyone can explain why when i run Vista 32bit the computer is faster than 64bit,
In 32bit and using say FAVC and encoding with hcenc i can get average 120+ frames, 64bit i can only average 80+ frames.
Also explorer feels faster with 32bit
I have googled but i havnt got a answer .

I am now duel booting windows vista 32bit and windows 7 64bit, The only thing windows 7 is faster at is booting!

I have the following.
-asus m2n68-cm mainboard
-6 gig of DDR2 ram
-Amd Athlon 64 dual core 4800+ cpu
-2x 160 g/b sata hdd
-ATI radeon hd2400 pcie graphics card

Your thoughts appreciated

Daniel

Re: My 32 bit faster?

64-bit is inherently a little faster, but it's not something you'd easily notice without benchmarking. If the same app performs 50% better under 32-bit...

1) It's actually a 32-bit app and somehow the "thunking" between the 32-bit app code and the underlying 64-bit OS is being inefficient in this instance. It's rare, but under some very specific circumstances it can happen. Try finding a 64-bit build of the app.

2) You're using drivers with very different levels of optimisation, and the ones under a 32-bit install are far better. This would include your NIC driver, video, antivirus... try updating every driver you can think of under the 64-bit installation.

If it's not just one app but literally the entire system that is discernibly slower under a 64-bit installation, you've got a fairly pronounced driver problem (2).
