| Vista x64 Business | USB drive requires initializing but Logical Disk Manager gives an error Hi I've searched on google and through this forum for a couple of hours but can't find something that seems to fit my particular problem. I have Seagate Freeagent USB drive, which is reported as such in Device manager. However the drive will not appear with a drive letter. In disk manager a message reported that the drive was not initialized and when I tried to add a master book record a message appeared "Logical Disk Manager The system cannot find the file specified" I know that logical disk manager was a service on XP but in vista64 business, which is what i'm running, I looked in the services and this service is not there. I have plug and play active as is RPC. I've only had vista for a week after building a new computer so I'm unsure of how different the workings are. Any help someone could give would be much appreciated. |

You just need to format the drive, In Disk Management right click on the drive and select Format, as you go through the procedure you will be able to give the drive a letter. I hope this helps Pooch |

| Vista x64 Business | Re: USB drive requires initializing but Logical Disk Manager gives an error Thanks for the reply Pooch, You can't format the drive, because it is not initialized, right clicking on it will only allow you initialize it or view the properties.
