Vista - Unable-to-rename-problem not fixed by Take Ownership, etc

Running Vista32 Home Prem, SP1.
I run as administrator.
I do NOT use any registry cleaners.

I am not able to rename or move select folders. Even though they have been shared (as described below), the renaming and moving attempts have been only from the computer and account that initially created them.

Have a folder (with many sub-folders) that I have been sharing without problem across my home network (don't know if the sharing is related to the renaming issue). A few weeks ago I found that the root shared folder and one of its sub-folders could not be renamed or moved, though I can still rename sub-sub-folders and create and modify files contained in any. I don't know if this is a recent development; it may be that that was the first time I felt the need to rename of more them.

I applied the "Take Ownership" merge from this forum to add take ownership to the context menu. I then applied the 'take ownership' at the root of the share. Even though the command window showed activity (and I could see 'success' or 'successful' repeatedly), afterward I still was not able to rename the root share or that one sub-folder.

I then did 'take ownership' again for just the sub-folder; again the command window showed activity, but afterward still could not rename the sub-folder. And just to repeat, I was and am still ABLE to rename the sub-sub-folder.

Thinking that maybe the network sharing was impacting this, I then removed the share capability AND the security settings from the shared root. Repeated take ownership; but no change.

I then downloaded from this forum the "Fix_Rename_32_Bit_ Vista" registry merge and applied it. Tried again to rename the root share and the its sub-folder; again failed.

I've run out of ideas. Would appreciate some guidance.

What is the error you get?

If the program/file is in use/open you must kill the process/close it.

I get prompt indicating that access is denied:
"Destination Folder Access Denied"
> chose Continue
UAC prompt
"Destination Folder Access Denied"
> Chose Try Again
{and the last 2 repeat without change}

The folders involved all contain data; no executables.
No data files are open in any program. Nirsoft Utility 'OpenFilesView' confirms that none of the relevant files or folders are open.
Hence, there is no process to kill; no file to close.

Where is the destination folder?

This can occur when the destination shared folder/drive is offline or sharing is disabled/ or sharing is enabled for reading but not to write to or edit (full control/change) on the destination source pc.

But remember that I retain Admin privileges on everything else I've tried to rename or move. So selective corruption is questionable.
Any suggestions beyond what I've already tried?

The (Destination) folder is on the same computer from which I am trying to rename it. When I've tried to move the problem folder, the attempt is just to move it to a new location on the same computer.

So I don't think that Sharing is an issue here. I mentioned it in my OP just to cover all the bases. And as far as I can tell, this inability to rename does NOT occur on other distinct network shares from this computer.

And to repeat, the odd thing about this is that it is only one previously shared folder and one sub-folder to that one that have the problem of being unable to be renamed or moved. Have never encountered a selective problem like this.

If the folder is not in use by another source, and you as the Admin User who created it, and are denied access to it, then that leads me to believe your User account is corrupted.

To verify, activate the built in true admin, and see if you can delete/rename/move. If you can, than your Admin: User is corrupted.

Administrator Account

Okay, as suggested I activated the built-in admin acct and from there I AM able to rename the sub-folder that I couldn't from within my usual acct that has admin privileges.

And curiously, I've since logged off the true admin acct and come back to 'my' account and what I find is that the sub-folder renamed in true admin can be renamed to yet another name while logged in here. Strange to me.

If my User Acct is corrupted in some fashion, are you aware of anyway to address that? (Though again, the problem here seemed to be limited to just 2 folders, one a sub of the other).

Best way is to log back into the real Admin account create another Admin User log back out (disable Admin), and see if the new Admin User account has full priviledges, If so, then transfer the User file folder to new account- then delete corrupted Admin User account.

First, I would try a system restore to undo the damage (if a restore point to undo it exists). Back up the Users folder (under computer), because once you delete your User the files will be unretrievable.
