DVD Maker will only burn on LightScribe DVD

Hello everyone,
I would really appreciate some help. I have an HP Pavilion Media Center m8200n PC with Windows Vista Home Premium. The problem is with publishing from WMM to DVD using Windows DVD Maker. The encoding process goes fine but once it begins to finalize (98.8%) the DVD will eject and then it gives me the message that it cannot complete the burning process due to an error but it doesn’t tell me what the error is. The only thing mentioned is to check the burner and make sure it is connect properly. I should mention that I have an internal LightScribe burner (ATAPI DVD A DH16A3L SCSI cd Rom device). After spending the better part of a Sunday afternoon I tried using only a LightScribe DVD and that worked but in the past I had been able to use any brand DVD. Does anyone have an idea as to why DVD Maker is no longer able to burn onto any DVD brand?

Are you asking about burning an external image or just data to the dvd in general?

It should be able to burn to any dvd r/rw if it is the same format (i.e., you cannot burn to a DVD+r disk if you only have a DVD-r burner), as for burning external images these are few, and may be dependent on a lightscribe burner only being able to burn an image on a lightscribe enabled dvd.

Thanks, I appreciate your fast reply. The burner will scribe a label image the problem is with burning data. I'm using the same batch of dvd's I've used in the past. Mid March was the last time I was able to successfully burn a movie created and edited on WMM using, as I said before, a dvd from the same batch.

Sometimes if the dvd has already been burned and erased an error occurs. Have you tried a suported new disk?

I’ve only been using new dvd’s that were purchased in bundle sometime in January. From that batch of new dvd’s I’ve used and had been able to successfully burn movies from WMM. Since this problem began I’ve used a new dvd at every attempt. What I cannot find an explanation for is why they are no longer supported by the LightScribe burner.

what error message do you get when the burn fails?

As long as the disk is the type supported it should not matter.
Considering it is doing it with new disks, I suspect maybe something is corrupted-

try this:

Go into device manager and uninstall the dvd burner and any lightscribe software, then remove the optical drive from the pc and restart Vista, then reinsert the drive, and load any software back to it after Vista loads the drivers.

It sounds like to me your drive may be failing/or there is corruption. In cases like this there is always a burning issue where it wont read/write to certain disks even though they are supported. If you are still under warranty I would consider contacting tech support, or purchasing a new optical drive to see if the problems resolves.
