After i run command prompt it takes about 10 seconds to respond, sometimes the window dosent even open untill after 10 seconds and then it is responsive, but usually the window opens immediately and it dosent respond untill after ca 10 seconds.
Please help me, this is really annoying because i use cmd very much.

Hello hakon.

It won't hurt to post the log, just wrap it in code tags by clicking this icon in the post reply header.

This is only a logfile of cmd.exe and conime.exe, since cmd.exe executes conime.exe, if you would like a logfile of all process activity, let me know.

You will need ProcMon to view the logfile Process Monitor v2.04.

I have scanned my computer for viruses using: KAV '09, AVG free, Ad-Aware, Spybot s&d. None of them found anything

Antivirus/Firewall is not affecting this, since it happens in safemode too.

The ProcMon logfile covers a period of only around 2 seconds. It would be useful if you could do that again, except this time note to the second the precise point at which the CMD window becomes responsive. That info is significant when trying to analyse the log.

Also, do you know how to generate a hang dump of a process? If I was to ask "can you generate a minidump of the CMD process about half-way during those 10 seconds", would you know how to do that?

My Computer

I attached another logfile wich should make more sense, here is the time sequence of things in the log:
EDIT: i got a 500 internal server error when uploading the file, so here is a link

Sequence ID: 6919, Time: 18:01:13 >
I run CMD and the window pops up immediately and i click the close button (to see exactly when it starts responding)

Sequence ID: 9457, Time: 18:01:14 >
I click "Create Dump File" in taskmgr

Sequence ID 18769, Time: 18:01:18 >
taskmgr finishes writing the DMP file

Sequence ID: 60447, Time: 18:01:23 >
CMD exits the very second it becomes responsive

* while it is not responding, it does not show me that normal vista-type "not responding" (where the window goes half-white when i click in it, you know what im talking about) but acts more like a picture/wallpaper, i cant click on it, cant type, cant move it and the close, minimize buttons dont work and. not sure if this is anything important, but its diffirent from all the other normal "not responding".

About the hang dump, im not sure if i did the correct thing, if not, please tell me how :)

P.S. while looking at the logfile i noticed the last registry key it accesses before it responds is HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager, there is a string value named "AutoChkTimeOut" and has the hex value of "A" wich is 10 seconds decimal, could this be it ?

That's possibly very significant, especially given the box I'm on does not have an AutoChkTimeOut key (or value) in that location.

I'd suggest backing up important data, just in case, and then cranking up that number to say 0x20 as a test. After a reboot, are you now waiting 32sec for the CMD window to talk to you?

Actually, thats not neccecary now, the problem seems to be fixed :D I didnt change the value. However I was following Brink's steps to improve perfomance on vista.
I took the folowing steps:

7. Enable Advanced Performance for the Hard Drive

23. Speed Up the Boot Time
Option 8, Disable the Transient Multimon Manager (TMM)

28. Change or Disable the QoS Reserved Bandwidth Limit

30. Add COPY TO FOLDER and MOVE TO FOLDER to the Context Menu

31. Disable the Transient Multimon Manager (TMM)

34. Turn Windows Explorer Thumbnails Off

I'm not sure what step fixed it, but im happy now :)

Now there is only one more problem i need to fix, this

P.S. Fixed my last post, was supposed to be Value, not a key

cmd.exe is no longer executing conime.exe while it starts, any idea how i accidentaly did that/where it is configured(if one can)?

Okay, this started happening again.
I have a feeling it has something to do with the tweaked services by Black Viper.
I reset all windows services to default and rebooted, then cmd opend normally and worked fine. Then i tweaked them like this "Tweaked" and there i was with the 10 second delay again.

Perform a system restore to revert all the changes that you have made in services.msc

System restore is disabled, takes up to much space and i can fix all of my problems...exept for thisone...and one other :D

One thing that may help you:
I have WindowsGate installed, replaced the utilman.exe with the wingate version, if i launch a command prompt form the login screen using win gate, it works just fine

If you look in the Black Viper article, there is also a way shown to restore all services to their default condition. i would recommend do not play with the system services if they are causing problems.

How can that be possible?
On your 1st post, you have mentioned that it worked when you restored all vista services and now you are saying that its not working after changing services to default? :p? :p?

Yeah that seems like a good idea. And remember, there's nothing called as Tune-Up Utilities as such. So do not screw up your computer next time. ;)
