Can't get Vista to start. And I've been trying to fix it for FIVE HOURS.

I'm on my laptop, by the way. I've done everything I can think of, so now I'm posting here. Here's the deal.

My hard drive came partitioned. A few months ago, I decided to dual-boot Vista and Windows 7, so I installed 7 on the blank partition. Tonight, with my first partition getting low on room, I decided to get rid of 7. So I downloaded EasyBCD and used it to delete the Windows 7 option off the boot menu. For some reason, it deleted the Windows Vista option. I went ahead and deleted Windows 7 from it, then re-added Vista from the C drive. I didn't delete Windows 7 or anything, just got it off the boot selection.

Upon restart, I just got a screen saying Windows failed to start, telling me to put in a recovery CD. All I could do from there was restart. I grabbed my Acer recovery, but the only option it gave me was a full reformat. I searched online and found this:

Download: Windows Vista x64 Recovery Disc — The NeoSmart Files

Quite excited, I downloaded and booted from it. Unfortunately, I can NOT get it to recognize my hard drive, my CD drive, or anything except it's own files, which it refers to as "X:" I mucked about with it for a while, tried a few command line settings, but could not access C:.

In an attempt to fix this, I went into my BIOS and tried changing some parameters. Upon restart, my RAM was checking itself at about 1MB per second. I opened my rig and took out half my RAM, then waited for 30 minutes. That didn't work, so I went back into the BIOS and set things back to default.

So then I downloaded and installed Ubuntu on a new partition. This, for one thing, gave me access to all my files and whatnot and let me verify everything was still there. I was also hoping to find some way to repair Windows through Ubuntu, but could find nothing. Also, Ubuntu now seems to think there's no free space on its drive, and I have no idea why.

I'm getting to the point where I just want to find a way to back up my files and re-install everything. Problem there is that my PC apparently didn't bother to come with Windows Vista 64-bit, at least considering the near-worthless recovery discs claim that they're the 32-bit version on the label.

What in the world can I do from here, ladies and gents?
