RAM usage and Windows Task Manager

I have 8Gb RAM on a computer that is used only for processing digital image files - they are all either 120Mb TIFFs or 220Mb TIFFs.

To optimize performance, I have a separate internal 50Gb D: drive which I use only for Photoshop, Bridge and Adobe Camera Raw. Their Cache folders are pointed at this drive.

In Windows Task Manager, under the Performance tab, it says that Physical Memory is Total 8124 and Cached is 6925.

What is "Cached"?

Does it affect the performance of the machine?

Thanks.

its superfetch and no it wont affect the performance at all , in fact over time it will even make your machine a little perkier :)

Im obsessed with having the leanest fastest machine i can ;) ive had superfetch on ive had it off ive set it to cache only boot files and set to cache only program files and just simple ON is the best ;)

Couldnt agree more. I tried changing it too and came to the same conclusion that Superfetch should be left as it is.

Basically as it is when vista boots it preloads some data for your programmes (thats why your using 6925mb) into the memory so that when you click to open a programme its faster as the datas already been loaded.
