i have recently ran a registery cleaner, i do not know why. I am now having troubles with my windows vista operating system.

It seems i cannot access my registery but maybe you will be able to help me with whats wrong.

i have tried to install a few applications since i have "cleaned" my registery. i get these errors:

Installing AVG:

Installing itunes:

Installing java:

I did make a backup befor i edited my registery with the cleaner. this is what it says when i merge the .reg file.

I have tried a system restore but the only backup i have gives me a "error could not access disk" - or something along those lines.

Any ideas on how i can fix this please.

Ive just tried to install some bluetooth software and i get the same error.

Error 1402. Could not open key

Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.

Try to restore the entries cleaned by the reg cleaner, or perform a system restore to undo the changes made. if all this fails then your will have to re-install Vista due to Windows/User corruption.

Futher note- Do not use reg cleaners/optimizers especially if you dont know the purpose of the entry it wants to clean. they are unable to distinguish between unwanted and legitimate entries, and more often than not will corrupt Windows necessatating a re-install.

ive tried doing a system restore, it wont work, and it wont restore the back up my made for the reason above.

Ive looked into this error, theres another fix for it i believe. If anyones trying to puzzle this out, ive looked into the folder where the itunes key wasnt able to open and its empty. any ideas?

EDIT: do you reccomend a program that will be able to add .reg files to the registery in vista?

Try running a System Restore through a Vista recovery (RE) boot, If it still fails you will have to Completely re-install Vista.

If you cannot boot into RE, then create a RE disk:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/141820-create-recovery-disc.html

The issue is not the program, but that the reg cleaner you used corrupted the Windows registry, usually the best fix for this is a complete reinstallation of Windows.

RE boot will just restore my OS? change programs but save my files?, how can i boot into RE without the disk?

You cannot boot into RE without either the Vista disk, or a recovery partition.
you can though create a recovery disk (see tutorial above)
RE will allow you to access system restore in the recovery enviroment. If it fails to resolve the issue, then you are looking at a reformat, complete re-install of Windows.

Did you create a data backup, or drive image of Vista? you can restore from that too.

regedit is the registry editor for Windows, what cleaner did you use?

If re-install is required-
Hit F10 at boot to access recovery partition.

Sorry ive been typing that into CMD to many times. i Used regseeker, ive been playing around with notepad creating new registery files from the backed up file that i have.

Ive found out that i only have access to certain folders, its hard to explain but heres the folders i dont have access too:

Should i have access to those subfolders? i cant add the backup registery to those folders as i dont have access to them? how can i get access to them?
