Vista random hard freezes

Hi everyone!

Yesterday I switched from x86 to x64 Vista Business. I did it because of upgrading from 2GB to 6GBs RAM. Install and updates went fine and then I saw, task manager detects only 5Gigs of ram. So I went to BIOS and set memory remap to Enabled.

And after than, Vista detects all 6Gigs but have a random freezes after about 5 to 10 minutes running. I have the latest drivers, updated system and latest BIOS.

My specs:
Asus P5B
Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1,8 GHz (default)
2GB goodram + 4GB corsair, both 800 MHz
320GB Seagate HD
420W LC power supply
PCI-e nVIDIA GeForce 7600GT
Optiarc DVD-RW
X-Fi xtreme music
Realtek WLAN PCI card

I've test my memory with vista memory test and didn't find any errors.

Please for your help, I don't know where to look for problems. I was searching something about PAE but didn't tried it yet.
I think is something about memory remap or something like that.

Thank you!

PAE doesn't exist on 64-bit Windows - it's purely a 32-bit mechanism.

I'd suggest not jumping to conclusions about the cause of your freeze. The fact that you had memory visibility issues doesn't automatically mean that the freeze has anything to do with that.

If you boot the machine to safe mode and leave it running there for a while, does it still lock up?

Also, what is the extent of the lockup? Can you move the mouse? Get something on screen to blink? Do you hear any HDD activity at all? Does the machine do anything except display a static image and keep the fans running?

Tnx for replying!

I will test in safe mode asap.
Lockup is total, so it's just like you said. Machine is displaying static image and running fans etc. I can't move mouse, can't type, or if I do, nothing happens. Not even a beep from pc speaker. There's no HDD activity, no sound and also HDD led indicator is off. Although there is no activity I think HDD is still running...

[edit]: On exactly same machine I was running Vista x86 without any problems, with 6GB installed and of course only 3gigs supported in Windows. (only then I had memory remap set to disabled)

OK, I've found the problem. It was stupid Ralink WLAN PCI card RT61 :( Whenever it has came to more simultaneous connections, computer just freeze. So I've google a lot and found an older driver, which works fine, but limits the throughput.

Anyone have expiriance with this? Or I'll got tu buy a new wireless card :\

Glad to hear you had some success with the issue. Wireless is still in its infancy and may of the products/drivers are downright ####ty, if you'll pardon my font. Personally, I do whatever I can to avoid the use of wireless whenever possible.

yes, I have the same board and the same issue, although after shutting down, and unplugging the power to the ocmputer for a minute, starting up the second time usually there is no problem.
