UNABLE TO INSTALL VISTA x64 PLS HELP!!!

INSURGENT

New Member
HI ALL,

I am experiencing a whole deal of difficulty running a clean install of vista ultimate x64.

Now upon install it seems to boot fine and get into the initial install setup of keyboard type (US etc...) and the selection of the OS, I select my HDD to install vista on and the installation goes away copying files and extracting files ... then upon the reboot to setup the rest of windows this is where it all goes terribly wrong, i have had several different errors and BSODs examples are below:

0x0000001a
0x00000024
0x00000034
0xc0000005
iqrl_not_less_or_equal
CACHE_MANAGER
BAD_POOL_HEADER

Now i have researched all the errors i have had show up and can define nothing in common with them all, I have removed the X-FI creative sound card, wireless kbd and mouse and gone back to basics, i have checked all my hardware and it IS compatible with x64 but still no luck.

My system consists of:

M/B - PN5-E SLI
PSU - Thermaltake tough power 1100W
CPU - Q6800 quad core
PGU - EN8800GTS x2
ram - 1G x4 kingston ddr2
HDD - WD 500G

i can get no replication of the error it just goes mental on the initial reboot after installing windows, and then reboots over and over, sometimes it gets further and gets back into windows but then i just get told the pc rebooted unexpectedly or the install was interupted to reboot and reinstall, i have tried to repair the half install but still no resolve (the even weirder thing was i tested vista ultimate x86 (32-bit) and all installs fine  go figure IM OUT OF IDEAS I REALLY NEED HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!

If you have sata drives are you loading the Controller at the Install 3rd party screen during setup?

Have you completely deleted ALL partitions and installed into unpartitioned space? If you cannot see the partitions then your drives are not detected by the Vista Install-the install will fail. The loading of drivers at startup is not the vista Install.

After drivers for setup are loaded, you will see a "load 3rd party drivers" screen. This is required for SATA HDD's. Failure to load these, or setting the HDD from AHCI to IDE will prevent the Install. If sucessful, you will see a screen for the Hard Drive listing partitions (or an unpartitioned space). Delete all partitions-do not format. then Install Vista into this unpartitioned space.

Check your BIOS- are you running as IDE or SATA (AHCI)?

Then you have a problem- Vista does not include AHCI/SATA drivers. These must be loaded at setup.

your BSOD is for bad/buggy drivers.
What kind of disk or you installing from a OEM (which are bundled with drivers including AHCI that may not be for your system-hence bad drivers),Retail, or system builder?

If it is not solely a OEM Vista DVD, but is instead a slipstreamed Set of Recovery/Install disk these will not work. Most disks that ship with Computers are slipstreamed, and loaded with system drivers/software. Only an OEM "upgrade" disk is not, and there are not too many of these around as Vista has been out for years. An Original OEM Vista DVD that is not for your System will not work due to driver/hardware incompatability issues.

Yes OEM CD, well the 32 bit ultimate dvd i have works fine can i run the basic install from that then upgrade to the 64 bit ultimate ? as the 32 bit has the correct drivers and seems to work seamlessly or is this just anothe delusion adgranjour of mine?

You must fresh install from x86 to x64 Operating systems.

Most Vista OEM CD/DVD's have the slipstreamed AHCI and system drivers on the disk. You are able to use this SATA driver, but the other hardware drivers conflict with yours and gives the bad driver error, and result in the install failure.

Your best bet if you are going to use an OEM disk is to locate a "upgrade" DVD disk, as these are similiar to the retail versions/OEM system builder versions- with no slipstreamed drivers.

Do you have a product key for the version you are trying to install that is not in use by another pc, or are you just going to re-use yours?
and do you have handy the AHCI (sata) controller driver for you system, say like on a USB thumbdrive?

If you have a key for 32-bit Ultimate it will work for the 64-bit version. you will need to extract the Driver folder for your sata/raid and then navigate to these drivers at installation of 3rd party drivers during install.

Did you try taking out half of the RAM when trying to install the 64 bit OS?
Because having 4gb of RAM in while installing vista 64bit Vista seems to cause a whole lot of problems.
