Hello Kenjie,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

Can you see the drive in Windows Explorer? If yes, then do you get any warning message when you click on it?

Attach/turn on External drive, Elevate a (cmd) command Prompt, right click and run as Administrator:
see:http://www.vista4beginners.com/Check-Disk

Type:
e:

copy/paste the following command and hit ENTER.
chkdsk /r

force a dismount so checkdisk can run [select yes](y)

otherwise-
If this was done in XP, and the issue is now you cant access the data in Vista
I would put it back into an XP machine, copy all the data off it, put it into Vista and format/assign drive letter run a full disk check, then copy the data back to it if it is ok.

I am having problems with my HP pc where the usb connection stops working after a short time

fx. i hook up a usb key or a external HD - the pc finds the drive and i can open it!

but after a short time the drive is according to Vista empty
but if i disconnect it and re-connect it again it works again for a short time?

what can i do??
