That's not a bad price if it has the product key number with it.

You can tell if you currently have a 32-bit or 64-bit Vista under the System Type section using the insturctions I posted above.

You can compare the different Vista editions at this link below. Clicking on the tabs there will give you more details information on each individual edition.

Windows Vista: Compare editions

Look at that model at Dell, it looks like you can easily use a 64-bit Vista if you like as well.

cool!

I did that

it says this....

________

windows edition

windows vista home premium

copyright 2006

then--- a link to "upgrade windows vista"

---
in the other panel----it says

system type: 32-bit operating system

processor, intel core i7 cpu--- 930 @2.67 GHZ

windows is activated

___________

so, maybe just getting the disk would be good because of the "no disk no doc" option that I was given by dell....

and,

it looks like the disks are 64 bit, not 32 bit

will prgrams start faster with 64 bit?

I am not doing serious gaming, and not doing cad or picture rendering

but, I would like to surf the internet fast, and have programs "snap" open

I might do some video stuff....I play bass guitar and want to play make some videos for you tube....

thanks for the welcome!

I hope I am on the right track, I spent alot for this system, and need ot know how to use it...use the vista!

thanks

It say on the vista page---

To use "enterprise" I need windows support---

So, will the "enterprise" check coding or serial numbers to work?

And--- I might be ok with the "vista home premium 32"

The only home options--

Are the ---ultimate-and the 64 bit option, correct?

Are these important options, and will I notice a difference in perfomance with the i7 920 proc?

Thanks

Al

Al,

I'm assuming that you have 3GB of RAM since your computer came with the 32-bit Vista Home Premium. If that is the case, then that Vista should be fine for you if you did not want or need the extra features in Vista Ultimate.

If you have more than 3GB of RAM, then you would want a 64-bit Vista to be able to fully use of the RAM and more. The full retail version of Vista Ultimate includes both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions in the package. You can use the product key number to install and activate either one of them, but only one of them at one time. You cannot install and use the key on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions at the same time on different drives or computers.

yes the system has 3gb

I might want to upgrade to 6gb in the near future

how would I verify that the SW the guy is selling is the one you noted above?

I see 64bit would be better, cuz it is more than 32. better for my needs, meh, I just bought two computer games.,....so maybe

uh...what does ultimate give me?

I read one of your links, maybe it is in the other...I see that is 17 pages...

so I gotta some reading!

If it is the complete retail package that he is selling you, then you should have two DVDs with one for 32-bit and the other for 64-bit.

A OEM copy can only be installed or reinstalled on the exact same computer that it was originally installed on. If a purchased OEM version has never been installed before, then it can be installed on your computer. Afterwards, it will only be able to be reinstalled on your computer. If it has been installed before and not on yours, then it will not install on your computer.

A retail copy can be installed on any computer, but the product key can still only be used to activate one computer instance at a time. The key cannot be used to activate Vista on mulitple computers at the same time, but can be used to activate on any computer.

k

so , just because it has the product key, that doesnt mean it will work on my system

because, if it is an OEM package, it will only work on the machine it came with....and only with the product key

but, if it is a retail package, it will work on any system, once, with the product key

the person selling it is the vista ultimate with the fresh, not used, product key unopened package....

but I dont know if it is OEM or retail.....so important to find that out...correct-o-mundo, right?

big al

and, brink, kind sir....

you say.......

"complete retail package that he is selling you, then you should have two DVDs with one for 32-bit and the other for 64-bit."

question----does the OEM package have two dvd's as well?

thanks

big al
