A family member recently passed away and we just got his laptop. He was using Vista Premium Home. When we turn on his computer, we need to log-in to his account, but we don't know that password. There is no administrator account either. I have tried to run safe mode, but it still does not work without the password. Also, he doesn't have the disks for vista anymore. How do I get onto the computer without the disks or the password? I know there are things to download on other computers to solve this, but I would like to avoid that too if possible. Please help.

There is a tutorial around here for the hidden administrator account in Vista.
Activate the hidden administrator acount, login, go to control panel, change the password for the account you want to get into.

I saw that thread, but I think you need to get onto the computer using safe mode first. I can't even get on using safe mode.

In your situation, I do not know of any other method than one like the in METHOD THREE in the tutorial below to create a disc on another computer to reset the user account password on his laptop to gain access again without losing anything.
