Hello Wizkid,

For something like the DVD drive, it will not display unless there is a DVD in the drive.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

For removable drivers like Flash Drives, it shows the used and free space. Are you talking about Removable drives like DVDs or Flash Drives?

Hi Both,

Yeah the flash drive is formatted.

I have attached a picture of the problem as you will see there is no bar displaying the free space on the optical drive or the flash stick. this works ok in windows 7 on both devices but not in vista, is there a setting that needs to be ticked somewhere?

Hi Brink,

Yes if I click on the properties of the device then it brings up the free space disk. Do you think there is anything that could need resetting?

You might see if shutting down, disconnect the memory card reader, restart, shutdown, and reconnect the memery card reader may reset it to display them afterwards.

No worries mate, do you think something is still not setup right in vista? I dont think its never for some reason displayed the bar for the optical drive and flash drive but not sure. I take it its nothing to do with the fact that I am using vista HP and you are using ultimate?

Na, that wouldn't have anything to do it with.

You might try uninstalling the devices in Device Manager, and restarting the computer to have them redetected and added back to see if they may display afterwards.

Hiya wizkid,

I have the same thing, but only when I insert a USB stick which I also use as a readyboost drive. So, check whether you are also using it for readyboost. If so, then that's why it's not showing you the free space on it. If you're not using it for readyboost, then honestly, I haven't a clue.
