Vista - User Profile Service failed the login

Have suddenly had "The User Profile Service failed the login" message come up and although I've found the tutorial to fix it on this site, my problem is that I am the only user and there is no other profile on this computer that I can log into. So my question is, how do I get into the computer in order to switch to safe mode and then follow the tutorial? Any step-by-step guide for this technical numpty would be much appreciated!

Well it would help if you posted your computer specs.

Try rebooting, and tapping F8.

Sorry, you see am THAT rubbish at computers it didn't occur to me.....but followed your genius advice and not only did that get me in to safe mode but then allowed me to follow the tutorial and the problem is now FIXED! Am sure that this is bread and butter stuff for you, but finding this site and then solving the problem has just made my day. Really appreciate you responding.
