Solved Drive C Usage ???

Hi everybody,
I'm new to this forum and I think it's a really really useful forum.
I have an HP HDX X18-1275 laptop which has two hard drives. The problem I have is that drive C usage is reported about 120GB but when I even show the hidden files and uncheck the check mark to protect system files (in Folder and Search Options), when I select all the files shown and right click and then select Properties, the reported size is only almost 46GB ..... (almost one third of the number reported when I right-click on the C drive itself and select Properties) ....... Anyone know the reason? Are there any files not being shown and responsible for this HUGE gap?
By the way, the disk usage for drive D is accurate and there's almost no difference if I right-click on the drive and select Properties, or select all the files and folders in the drive and get their properties.

Hello Farzadmf, and welcome to Vista Forums.

It could be the space used by system restore points and shadow copy, virtual page file, and the index. They will not always show up as used space since the space for these items are allocated, and may or may not have been used yet. However the unused space for these items is still not "free" to be used for anything else.

Hi and thank you for your answer; to be exact, when I select all files (and by all files, I really mean all files because I show hidden files and also clear the ckeck point to protect operating system files in the Folder and Search options, as I mentioned before) and select properties, the Size on disk is 45.6 GB but when I click Properties for the C drive I get 111 GB used, could the difference allocated for the files you mentioned be such huuuuge? This is about 75 GB; do these files reserve this huge amount of disk space??????

System Restore could sometimes use a lot, but you can check to see how much it uses from this tutorial. The page file is usually only around 4-8 GB at though.

Thank you so much for your answer, the first tutorial (about changing the disk space reserved for System Restore) was very useful and I reduced the amount from 68GB to 30GB and now my drive has more free space avilable.
