Fix "cyclic redundancy error"

I was dragging and dropping .jpg files into a folder and all of a sudden, I get this ugly error and was unable to access that folder any longer. It looks like all the files in that folder are gone forever! Is there any way to restore those lost files?
I have Carbonite for back up, but unfortunately the folder in question was backed up with no files in it!

It's possible that there's something wrong with the hard disk. You should think about the reliability of backups for all of your other data - if necessary, those need to be updated/created as a matter of priority because HDD problems are frequently degenerative.

After that, try running CHKDSK /R on that volume.
