Could Not Shut Down Computer

My computer is still fairly new (less than a year old), and I experienced my first significant problem. I was copying my documents to a CD, when suddenly I was not able to delte anything from the CD. I tried to delete several times when my computer froze. Nothing worked. I tried to shut down by holding the power switch, on the computer, Alt Cntrl Delete, pressing the power switch several times rapidly, etc, until I was forced just to pull the plug. Upon start up the computer went through the routine of notifying me that I had shut down imporoperly etc and did a check for errors. I, then, immediatly did a complete chkdsk, (the two hour option) and no errors were discovered. As far as I could tell, I did not damage any programs or lose any documents.
In such a scenario, did I have any other options rather than just pull the plug. Could there be any undisclosed damage to my puter?

Re: Could Not Shut Down Computer

Hmmm, sorry... no resolution to your problem but I HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM happened to me quiet a few times and I did, exactly, what you did so I am going to be looking at this post very closely.

Although, I seriously doubt there's anything else you/I can do about it when that happens.

Re: Could Not Shut Down Computer

How long did you leave the computer for?
In some situations the computer can look as if it has hung but it has just hit a major snag.
What were you trying to delete from the CD? Normally if you are using a normal cd you can not delete anything from it unless it is a rewritable cd.

Roy, I was using a rewritable cd. Everything was working fine. I was deleting files from a folder. After all the files were deleted, I decided to delete the folder, too. I tired several times, but it would not delete. I tried, shutting down the computer, again, could not delete. I then thought, maybe, change the name of the folder, I then tried to delete, it just hung, with the blue circle, (the old hour glass) spinning like crazy.

Re: Could Not Shut Down Computer

Copy the files you want to keep to a new cd and reformat the old one, rewritable cd`s do have a life (about 7 uses I think).
CD`s these days are very cheap, it may be an idea to keep the old ones as a backup medium, it will also give you different versions of your documents depending on what admenums you have made to them.
