I have just got in from work and turned on my pc. It did an update as the "configure 0 out of 3 updates" screen came up when it was loading. Now when it gets to the logon screen and I enter in my password I get this:

"You cannot log on because the logon method you are using is not allowed on this computer. Please see your network administrator for more information."

What on earth has happened???? How do I get this fixed???

Any of you guru's please please help me.

I can do the F8 and start in SAFE MODE but it puts me into a larger version of a login screen asking for a password still. I type the password and the same message appears.

Try System Restore from the Startup Repair. On some systems there's a "Repair this computer" entry above the Safe Mode options. If your system doesn't have this, try booting from the installation DVD. Click "Install" on the first screen, and on the second screen there'll be a "Repair this computer" link in the lower left corner of the Window.

Last known good configuration didnt do anything. It put me back to the start up screen.

Is there any other ways to get around this error and make it recognise my userid again?

There are websites mentioning gpedit.msc but I cannot get to run this. It sounds something about security?

The Installation DVD failed to make any difference. It states that the system isnt broken.

This is what I get when trying the System Recovery Options from the DVD:

This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows.

I really cant lose what on this hardisk. It has everything I own on it and the system is in perfect state and well looked after. I just cant get past the login anymore. Please someone help me. :(

Would anyone know if unticking any of these in the "Turn windows applications on or off" window under control panel => Uninstall Software caused any of the above problems:

TURNED ON - Active X Installer Service
TURNED ON - Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications
TURNED OFF - Tablet PC Optional Components

So tried the DVD again. Instead of highlighting the installation.. click under on some white space. This then brings up the system restore screen and lets you run a restore from a point you have made.

I am now back in the system and now about to do a massive backup onto my server in another room. Thanks to you all.

Over and Out!
