I've tried everything! Please help!

Okay, I have a Canon ZR800 MiniDV camcorder. I got it about 2 years ago. I was able to import the videos onto my previous laptop, which, unfortunately, had no burner so they couldn't go anywhere but on the computer. I got frustrated and decided I needed a newer, updated computer anyway. So, at Christmas time this year I bought a Sony Vaio that has Vista Home Premium on it. I haven't had any problems with anything other than just figuring it all out. Everything I use my computer for is fine....except for the main thing I bought it for. I can not import my videos to the computer. When I get everything plugged in and it appears that it is about to start importing, the screen goes blue and there is a big stop error message. I have called Sony. I have called Canon. I have called Microsoft. Sony and Canon both said it must be the OS, which led me to call Microsoft. Then, to get any real help, unless I did it wrong, I would have to pay $60!!! No thank you!

Anyone else have this problem???
