| Vista Business 64bit | New to windows? I have been using a mac for about 13 years, but about a month ago I had to install Vista business 64bit on my mac pro so that I could run some 3d applications, now I have a few questions. When I am installing or just running an application do I always need to run them as the administrator? I have had issues where, if I did not install an application as the administrator, by right clicking and selecting runs as administrator, the application would either do nothing or not install correctly. When I download applications that are zipped, does it matter where I unzip them? For instance, on a mac, if I want to download and install a plugin in photoshop, I just unzip the file and save it anywhere, then I drag the unzipped file in the plugins folder. |

| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 TECHNET | Re: New to windows? Hi speters1, No, you don't always have a run a program as an administrator. Some applications you might need to, in order for them to have access to the system properly. It depends on the application, like you say, some might not run properly or even install. No, it doesn't matter where you unzip programs. Just download them, extract them, save them in a folder, say your downloads folder. |

Although, since personally, I don't know which ones need to be run as admin... I do all of them as such, I doubt there is any harm on that as long as you know you want to install and/or run something. On the other Question, I have a folder created specifically for downloads and things I use temporarely so, everything gets dumped & run there, after that I delete it. |
