| Vista Home Basic 32 | SATA problem? "Please insert disc in drive D:" Hey forum, First post here, I hear this is a great place to come for Vista help so here goes... I recently completed a new computer and am having trouble with my optical drive (Model LG GH22NS30). The funny thing is I actually installed Vista onto my main HD (also a SATA drive) using the optical drive when I first loaded the computer. The error now is that when I put a disc into the drive Vista doesn't recognize the disc and when I try to access the drive the error message, "Please Insert a disc in drive D:" shows up and the drive ejects. The drive shows up in device manager. I've tried deleting it and rebooting to let Windows reinstall the drivers and have tried upgrading all the drivers I can find myself. Just to be sure I took the drive out and tested it on another computer and I now know the hardware is working just fine. I've seen other posts on other forums with similar problems but haven't found a solution. Here are the specs on my rig: BIOSTAR TA790GX 128M AMD Phenom II X4 940 Deneb 3.0GHz 4GB DDR2 RAM NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 512MB LG Black 22X (CAV) DVD+R (GH22NS30)... which I hope to soon have working! Thanks in advance for any help you can offer! -Q |

| Vista Ultimate X64 SP2 | Re: SATA problem? "Please insert disc in drive D:" Install the SATA drivers/software for your controllers either from a download or FDD/usb floppy. Did it come with a disk?, and have you updated your system at Windows update for Windows and other pruducts?, (keep going back until it says no further updates available for your system) It should work out of the box as long as the sata/raid controller is loaded (and it must be if Vista sees your SATA HDD). Check your BIOS setting for the optical make sure it sees it as a SATA AHCI DVD RE optical drive, and not running under IDE mode. Last edited by rive0108; 06-07-2009 at 12:46 PM.. |

| Vista Home Basic 32 | Re: SATA problem? "Please insert disc in drive D:" I have to agree completely that it should work out of the box... in fact it did work out of the box since I used it to install Vista. I completed all of the updates (even ones completely unrelated to SATA/Optical issues) and still no luck. The BIOS indeed reads it as a SATA DVDR. I've installed all the drivers from my mobo disc using an external optical drive I borrowed from a mate. Any more ideas? Thanks again for your help! |

| Vista Ultimate X64 SP2 | Re: SATA problem? "Please insert disc in drive D:" Reinstall Windows. delete all partitions and do a full reinstall of Vista-not from recovery disks, from a true Vista dvd. use an ide optical/load the sata drivers for the hdd. Install all windows updates untill there are no updates available for you system, Then download the firware for the sata optical, then insert the sata optical and install firmware GH22NS30 see if the problem is resolved. |
