Vista RAM boost worth it?

Hi,
Is the increase in the amount of available RAM allowed in vista 64bit worth it over windows XP? I have a fear that the resource hungry vista will only use up the extra RAM for its own processes and I'll be right back where I started. Any experts out there?

I have a machine running XP with 3GB of corsair XMS installed but it only uses about 2.5GB. If I go to vista 64 on this machine will I be able to realize all 3GB? And once again will this be worth it or will vista just bog down with all the other stuff it runs?

Vista is already oldware. Get Windows 7.

Vista needs a minimum of 2 gigs to run properly. I have 4 gigs, and when I was using it, it ran just fine. More would have been nice, but Vista didn't suck it up. So yes, its worth it.

x64 will read any amount of memory. x86 will only read <4 gigs.

Yes it is, but you are not helping him out any.
