Hi, first post, so hopefully this is the correct place.
Literally only had a new vista computer for two days, and problems already! I have three separate external HD's, and when I try to save lots of my large 60-80MB photographic files from the computer to any of the external HD's, the machine locks up completely. Sometimes turning off the HD in use, will free up the computer, other times, I have to power down the machine, task manager will not close the the programme. All three HD's work perfectly on my old computer running XP. I'm not very well informed on these matters, and a call to the helpdesk didn't help at all, they just said send it back. I have been googling the problem, and could it be that all my external HD's are FAT32 formatted? Should they be NTFS? If yes, is it easy enough to reformat without losing everything? Also, I will need at times to use thes drives on my old XP system, will that pose a problem if they are NTFS? I'd be grateful for any advice, comments etc. If I fail to fix this, I guess I'll return it to the shop for a refund.
