Help! Windows Freezes When I Click "My Computer" icon

Warble

New Member
Today when I tried to open "My Computer" I found that windows would stop responding, forcing me to open task manager and log off my account and back on. I ran my ESET virus scan and it found 1 problem but that did not seem to help me out. Anyone had any similar issues with this? Seems rather uncommon as a google search didn't come up with many problem-specific web pages. Running Vista Home Basic service pack 1

Warble - is this happening at a certain time (say when you're running a certain app) or at random times? You may simply be taking up too much of your computing bandwidth in your CPU.

Once My Computer has been clicked on and the freeze occurs it shows 2-3% computer usage on the task manager. Under the Applications tab it shows "Computer" as not responding, where I continue to right click and end the program at which point it appears as windows refreshes and the computer begins to work normally again. This doesn't occur randomly, I get this error coming off a fresh restart or after using my computer for hours. I can still access all my drives drives by right clicking on my computer and clicking on Manage>Disk Management, I just don't understand why trying to launch the icon specifically it causing this.

OK. I get what you're saying now.

Have you done a virus scan to see if anything's up with your system? Not saying there is something going on, but could help.

Cheers,
