Vista folders automatically creating groups (i.e.; A-L)

In some - not all - of my folders, Vista seems to be grouping things automatically into sub-categories. For example, I have a folder with six items in it (my view preference is details) and it's breaking them into to collapsable/explandable sub-things labeled A-L and M-Z. I can't seem to get it to stop doing this, and it does it at random - not all the time. Any thoughts?

Is it me or is anyone else finding that Vista is decreasing their production time? I have Vista at work and I find I spend a lot of extra time just trying to figure out simple tasks like this or figuring out what "Add/Remove Programs" is now called and where to find that and so on... so frustrating!

Hello KimMarie,

Welcome to the forums.

Have you tried right click/group by/ none? If this is happening in a particular type of folder say 'Documents', set the folder up as you like and then click organize on the toolbar/Folder and search options. View tab and click apply to all folders. This will apply your setting to all folder of this type. To make them all the same you will have to repeat these steps for picture, music, etc folders.

BTW, Add/remove programs is now called Programs and Features (control panel, classic view)

Hope this helps.

Gary
